ICU Proceedings and further publications1. ICU Proceedings The new conference series started by the ICU 2009 Santiago de Chile is a unique opportunity to establish web based "ICUltrasonics" proceedings in a sustainable and timely form, which are electronically accessible for search and retrieve. A review process will be established for "ICUltrasonics", in order to create a web-based proceedings reflecting the state-of-the-art of the discipline. The competence level of the ICU board and the community members should grant that "ICUltrasonics" will become a first class scientific literature. The "ICUltrasonics" proceedings shall comprise modern style web pages with a search engine (e.g. scholar.google.com) and PDF delivery, much like the on-line versions of journals (there are many examples on-line). In addition, we intend to connect the papers to a DOI (document object identifier, see www.doi.org) to get a generally accepted citation format for every paper. The "ICUltrasonics" proceedings will be an open access publication. 2. Physics Procedia articles Authors will be invited to adapt their papers for publication in the Elsevier’s journal Physics Procedia. All papers will go through a peer review process to insure proper selection according to the relevance and originality criteria of Physics Procedia. The conference will cover the publication fees of the accepted papers. For more information Physics Procedia. 3. Selected papers and Tutorials • The scientific committee will invite authors including plenary lecturers, tutorial lectures and invited speakers, to write invited articles containing relevant developments and new insights on the field. These contributions will go through a peer review process and will be published in a special issue of Ultrasonic. • We are also planning to edit a special book containing a few chapters on developments on the field. This book is aimed to become a useful tool for doctorate students and young specialist interested on the physics principles of ultrasonics. After the conference, we will invite a few scientists (for instance those showing special pedagogical skills) to enlarge their presentation or simply write a relatively complete review on their respective field.Enhanced version of tutorials might be considered here as well. This book would be completely supported by a local editorial company without additional cost for authors. »•« Deadline for submission of the manuscript is January 9, 2009
